Dan Merkel is one of the most legendary surf photographers of all time. I had the pleasure of getting to know Dan when he was my neighbor in La Conchita, some years ago. We met under dramatic circumstances, as he rescued my sailboat off the rocks out at Santa Cruz Island in a particularly wicked winter Santa Ana. He was (and still is) one of my all time photographer-heros. This is a cool little video about Dan. Enjoy.
