patina
pa•ti•na /pəˈtēnə/ [noun]:
the impression or appearance of something.

worn. weathered. patina. broken in. the appearance of a life well lived.

a few of our favorite words when it comes to many things around here. especially anything connected to motorcycles, a surfboard quiver, autos, art, those old gas station signs, you name it. patina has to be one of the greatest things that's so often overlooked in the 21st Century. think about the last time you drooled over a cherry pick-up truck, a '70s two-stroke smoke machine, or the last time you saw someone with a really worn & weathered jacket. have you actually seen one lately? in today's fast fashion driven marketplace, with so many brands pushing new styles driven by mass influential marketing, it's almost becoming extinct in some form.

on the surface, it's just patina right? not really. think of the stories that live deeper than just the surface. the miles ridden. the places travelled. new faces met. conversations that were had. the list goes on.

a jacket can tell a thousand stories.

a jacket can tell a thousand stories, if not more.

let's go back about 8+ years ago to "The Piece That Started It All." when we first introduced our waxed cotton Rambler Jacket, we were in the need of developing a jacket that would hold up to our daily love for riding. something not too technical, but stylish. keep it simple, has to be functional and classic. that's when the Rambler Jacket stepped in.

being hand-made right here in California was super important to us. it provided the ability to stay close to the production line at all stages. you've probably heard this a lot from us, but our Rambler Jacket was the first cut-and-sew piece we ever created. it was the beginning of an endless love for Waxed Cotton Canvas. it's one of our favorite materials for outerwear.

a first generation of the Rambler Jacket

well, our buddy @samsonhatae was one of the few to proudly wear one of our 1st generation waxed cotton jackets. this must have been back in 2013 or so. just this past year, we were able to persuade him to retire it to the archives here at Iron & Resin. it is now officially on display here at our office. we shot a couple studio photos of it because the jacket is just too good to hide the amazing patina that it proudly shows. this jacket has thousands of miles on it, even more stories to tell, and has been on trails from the Pacific Northwest all the way down to the Gulf of California. it's a well-worn trophy, that's for sure.

ready for new patina with stories to tell.

the Rambler Jacket was the start of an equation that built our mission as a brand: develop quality provisions and make them last a long time. now as we are about the hit the Spring Season of 2023, we are really proud to say that the Rambler Jacket sits at the center of our product line. it's our most popular piece.

it's still made right here in the USA, we're now using a 12oz waxed cotton canvas from British Millerain Co, a textile expert that has been using skills handed down through six generations, that's a century of craftsmanship. that right there is exactly what we look for when building a piece so close to our brand's purpose.
