Open Road Jacket

Description

This jacket has been on our drawing board for a few years now. We wanted to develop a timeless, heirloom quality jacket that looks as good on a city street as it does rolling around in the dirt at camp. With an outer layer made from split cow hide you get the abrasion resistance and durability of grain leather, but improved flexibility. Plus, we love the rugged look of a split hide. It's heavy. It's warm. It'll age like top-shelf whiskey and everyone will envy you for owning it.

I'm very impressed with the

"I'm very impressed with the quality of leather. The double needle stiching increases durability. The weight of the jacket is heavy and substantial for lower 30's° temps and still be comfortable. The look of this jacket is luxurious and masculine all at the same time. The length comes down to the lower waist/upper hip area which is perfect. If your a Nubuck feel type leather guy, your gonna Love this jacket. A must add to your outdoor wear wardrobe."

Great jacket, runs small

"I wear medium or large shirts and just started the return on the XL for the XXL of this jacket. I have waited a year for this jacket and bummed this one didn't fit. I hope the next one comes in quick. This jacket will last a long time and is worth the cost."

I love love love this

"I love love love this jacket but I wish the fit was better suited to me (which is why I gave it 4 stars). First the good: I absolutely love the green suede color and the feel of the material, definitely high quality there. The shearling interior was comfy and poly (?) lining was nice as well. Workmanship on point! I'm 5'10, 165 and am a medium in about everything I wear. After poring through all the reviews, twice!, I thought the medium was for me. When I got it, the fit was tight in the shoulders, fine in the waist (32 in). It was definitely a fitted piece but a little too snug so I decided to exchange for a large (after looking at the specs and seeing that the large was only an inch larger in many aspects). Well that inch created a different fitting jacket: shoulders were great, arms seemed to dangle off, collar was too high, waist too big. It's not a huge difference and my GF thinks it's ok. . . but it's not perfect for my body type. I'm spending a lot of time here as I know how hard it is to buy clothing online. It really is a beautiful jacket that fits a little smaller than average. If you are a skinny medium (I have big shoulders, skinny arms), then I'd go with a medium. If you're a bit more robust then a large. The exchange process was easy so you have that option. In the end, I probably should have stayed with the medium, especially if the material stretched some over time."

I ordered the wrong size

"I ordered the wrong size by mistake but the customer service was excellent and efficient, assuring me the replacement jacket is on its way. As for the jacket I received, before shipping it back, I was immediately impressed by the meticulous attention to detail. The jacket is, as others have noted, heavy but not too much so, hitting that just right sweet spot. I am sure the jacket will be around someone's shoulders long after I no longer need it"

A durable jacket for the open road

"This is an excellent jacket, especially with Black Friday pricing. It punches above its weight (and price) in terms of materials and quality, with the split cowhide outer really giving it a special touch. The Open Road Jacket is quite literally a heavy jacket, thanks to its thickness and the materials chosen. That said, it doesn't feel overly cumbersome. It actually retains a surprising amount of flexibility and mobility, considering just how heavy it feels in the hand. Here's the good: - The materials and construction feel premium (I've been wearing the jacket consistently for about two weeks) - It's comfortable and flexible. - It's warm. I'm currently in Tennessee and have worn this jacket in 20-degree weather with a simple button-up flannel under it. I never felt the need for a base layer or any other layers. - It looks phenomenal. The outer has a premium look and feel to it, and the brown has a rich coffee coloring. Really smart, especially with the contrasting white Sherpa fleece lining. - The three interior pockets are handy, and the two primary pockets are large enough to accommodate gloved hands. - The nylon-lined sleeves make it easy to get the jacket on and off, even with a long-sleeve layer under it. - Customer service was responsive and helpful. I initially ordered my regular size (L), but it was too small. They promptly shipped me an XL while they awaited my return. What could be improved: - The sizing is small. I am 5'11 and approximately 185lbs with a relatively athletic build and wide-ish shoulders. There was no chance a large would fit over anything more than a t-shirt. Even the XL feels a bit "fitted" with a decently thick flannel under it. Never in my life have I worn an XL, and I feel like I could actually wear an XXL in this jacket. - Made in Pakistan. That's not a knock on Pakistan; it would just be rad to see a jacket like this made in the USA (though I'm sure the price would reflect that change). - I'm no expert, so I can't speak much on this, but if there are alternatives to plastic fleece and nylon, I would love to see them used instead. - The buttons are difficult to use initially, but I believe it will get easier as the jacket wears in. - The cuffs are very stiff when you first wear the jacket. Due to the rugged cowhide material, they stubbornly remain in the shape they came in, making it extremely difficult to get your hands through and creating slight discomfort with the way they rub the wrist. However, this issue has improved already, and I imagine they will be soft and compliant as I continue to wear the jacket. Overall, I am impressed by the Open Road Jacket. I currently live on the road, and believe this jacket will hold up to the challenges of that lifestyle. I expect to wear it for many years to come and am excited to see the character it develops as it ages. This was my first purchase from Iron & Resin, and it won't be my last. I love the jacket, and I had a great experience with customer service. I can't wait to try some more of their products!"
