there's something about being on the road. the smell. your state of mind. the freedom. thoughts are clear, a sense of purpose is present, and there's this palette cleansing involuntarily happening. all good things in a simplified moment. for most, these are unrecognizable, but for the crew here at Iron & Resin, and our buddies at New Legend 4x4 they're never overlooked.

now there's a difference between traveling in an ultramodern automobile and a classic rig. sure, it's easy to rattle off the surface level goodies like A/C, Bluetooth, and push to start... the sh*t that most of us can live without. but let's not ever forget about that feeling of the road. vibrations in the wheel, the play in the cable clutch, smell of a 4-barrel carb, you know, the good stuff. for us, that's what it's all about.

between New Legend 4x4 and Iron & Resin, there's no doubt we share similar ethos. we have a nostalgia for heritage type things. whether that be a vehicle, clothing, motorcycles, or surfboards. building absolutely timeless things and built rock solid in quality. we both have an appreciation and passion for how all these things are built. it's what attracted our brands together over the past four years... only to come back looking for more.

A NOSTALGIA FOR HERITAGE THINGS

A NOSTALGIA FOR HERITAGE THINGS

our affection for the past is what drives us in the present. we're talking all things adventure. four-wheels, two-wheels, single fins, twin fins -- you name it -- we'd have to say we're a melting pot of these timeless things pleasantly colliding into one another. and if you've been here before,
we've worked with New Legend 4x4 on a few "pleasantly vintage conservatively modern" vehicles: like the 1972 Sunrise Yellow Scout II or the 1978 Rootbeer Brown Jeep Wagoneer. rigs that are fully capable of going anywhere, for any reason, at any time.

the coolest part is that we've been able to extend many of the same materials + textiles we use in our own provisions into the interior of these New Legend builds. being able to do this is super exciting for us, because it gives us the ability to add that timeless look and durability we strive to achieve in our clothing directly into the interior of some super rad rigs. we're talking seats that are wrapped in our very own 100% buffalo hide and Shelter Series 14.75oz waxed cotton canvas and knowing that they'll be out on the road for another 40+ years, that's the icing on the cake right there.

ANALOG FEEL WITH MODERN RELIABILITY

New Legend is known for their tasteful integration of new technology into a vintage aesthetic. it's a magical union that you don't really see on the road today. but, for this project, we wanted to keep it old school. because hey, who doesn't like old school, right?

there is something visceral and connecting about a well tuned vintage engine and gear box. the way the engine rumbles and the way the transmission clunks through the 4 gears. we're all about timeless style and quality built gear; so we wanted this Scout to have those qualities. to be a time machine... a durable, tough, beautiful timeless piece of automotive history.

this 1972 International Scout SSII is the end result of a vision that New Legend and our team have been dreaming about for a while. Baja has always been a dream destination to park one of these New Legend rigs. wide open trails, vacant point breaks, and nothing else to do except crack open ice cold cervezas. an adventurer's formula for absolute paradise. although we did not make it there yet with this new build, it's in the books. so what do we do? build a machine reminiscent of the Baja race trucks of the 70s. all business with removable soft doors, rear side windows and yet with a steel dome capable of carrying a tent, surfboards, or go fully topless. all while preserving that original patina. in all, this Scout was built for Baja - with genuine Scout SSII parts painstakingly gathered over the last 10 years. one other exciting part? New Legend 4x4 will be offering this rig up as a rental in the near future. that means you'll be able to take this awesome four-wheeler out on your next adventure. stay tuned for that!

WE DIG STUFF THAT WILL BE RELEVANT IN 20 YEARS

sure, we can add a few of our favorite product line materials that we regularly use day-in-and-day-out into this dream rig, but hey, let's take it a step further and develop some products that are also functional around how we're using the vehicle and our lifestyle. this way, we can offer something a bit more tangible to our customers from our collaboration this time around.

just recently, founder & CEO of New Legend 4x4, Sean Barber sat down with Iron & Resin CEO & founder, Thom Hill to talk about our history together, inspiration of our SSII build, and much more. take a listen below:

TAKE IT ON THE ROAD WITH YOU

well, for this Spring 2021 collaboration we're introducing four exclusive products between Iron & Resin x New Legend 4x4. This collection of everyday provisions was built from the same materials that the Scout SSII's interior was fitted with. Pretty epic.

first, we're excited to introduce the InR x NL Shop Apron. we made it with a 1.2-1.3mm buffalo hide because we didn't want any questions around durability. it's one of the toughest hides out there, so it's perfect for providing protection where needed and a lifetime of use. next, is our InR x NL Mechanic Jacket. developed from the same 14.75oz waxed cotton canvas as our Shelter Series that we launched in Fall '20. this was one of our most loved outerwear materials this past season (and still is) and we're really excited to use it within this collaboration.

leaving tools at home makes no sense to us and having an oversized toolbox doesn't really work most times either. so, we made an InR x NL Tool Roll from the same durable 1.2-1.3mm 100% buffalo leather to match the interior of the SSII seats. a 100% organic cotton tee with our custom "Adventure Begins" graphic tops it all off.

there's no doubt that since day one, we've always been into making rugged provisions. you know, the kinds of goods that will be relevant in your closet for years to come. the kinds of things we're proud to own and wear. the end result? a purpose built collection of products that draw heavily upon our lifestyles and experiences. and so, we'd have to say that everything we build is for a reason.

"there's a lot of parallel between what we're both doing. it has to not only function for how we want to use it today, but not look like it's trending in terms of fashion."

sure, we can add a few of our favorite product line materials that we regularly use day-in-and-day-out into this dream rig, but hey, let's take it a step further and develop some products that are also functional around how we're using the vehicle and our lifestyle. this way, we can offer something a bit more tangible to our customers from our collaboration this time around.

this Spring 2021 collaboration is introducing four exclusive products between Iron & Resin x New Legend 4x4: a Shop Apron made from a heavy buffalo hide, a mechanic's jacket developed from the same 14.75oz waxed cotton canvas as our Shelter Series, a really sweet Tool Roll, and a well-fitted graphic tee. we built these everyday provisions with the same materials that the Scout SSII's interior was fitted with.

whether it's the story behind something. we share a similar ethos. form and function. we have a nostalgia for heritage type things. whether that be vehicles, or clothing, or motorcycles, surfboards. there's no doubt that we have a passion and appreciation for how all these things are built.

just recently, founder & CEO of New Legend 4x4, Sean Barber sat down with Iron & Resin CEO & founder, Thom Hill to talk about our history together, inspiration of our SSII build, and much more.
